Memorable weekend

My cousin, Tiff, got married on Friday to the very lucky Mr. Dr. Sakurai.  A beautiful St. Patrick's day wedding.  The rain came down but she shined like a pot of gold.  Beautiful ceremony, beautiful couple, and very yummy food.  For hors d'oeuvres, they served pastrami 1/4 sandwich and a selection of girly martinis to choose from.  Pastrami tasty and lean.  Lip-licking good.  For dinner, they served a very tasty bass with a miso sauce.  Ooh, so good.  I need to get the recipe for that one.  At the end of the night, I was able to steal a moment and take a picture with my cousin.  I'm happy for you, Tiff!!

The next day we had to drink a lot of water and load up on carbs cause we participated in the L.A. Acura Bike Tour on Sunday (the bike component to the LA Marathon).  Got up at 4am to get to USC by 5:30am and hit the road at 6am.  Rode 21 miles in 2.25 hours.  My legs were jello but it was a lot of fun.  I recommend the event to anyone wanting to start their Sunday morning off with a good bike ride through different parts of LA.  I was able to complete it all by myself.  Someone was threatening to pull me with a chain but I would have none of that!!  For a reward, I got bibimbop for dinner!  Yum!  (Pictured: Ji, me, and Uncle Ray with our official bike tour medallians.  Tommy Trojan is behind us giving us props.)

Snow again in the California High Desert

SNOW, SNOW, SNOW... SNOOOWWW

Had an awesome weekend with my "old" college roommates.  They had come to go kite flying ("Kites Over Yucca Valley") but we played in the snow instead.  This weekend gave me a Ji and taste of what living in Washington DC is going to be like... exept there'll be a lot more buildings and people around.

Last time it snowed here was November 2004.  They said that was a freak of nature.  So what is this when it snows twice in 17 months!!??!!  Can we say global warming?

Anyways, here are some pics:

Me, Pam, and Cynthia making our snowman.  Our alone time while their babies slept and the guys played video games.

The snow covered desert: view from the front of our house.

Us standing cold but proud in front of our baby California Pepper tree and the snow covered mountains.  Hope the tree survives the 0 degree Celsius weather!!!

Superbowl XL = HUGE disappointment.

Message to the officiating crew:  Let the players play the game!  What a boring and disappointing game.  I had to walk away.  Maybe fans will continue to watch if we think the games will be called fairly.  Anyone think there might be a consipiracy behind favoring east coast teams?  Boo! to the NFL.

Tableau rouseau (sp?):  Just 7 months to wait for the season to begin with a clean slate, but what a disppointing game to end the season.  It left a sour taste in my mouth...

Home at last

Ji is home and he is making the most of it.  He is eating fast food (much to my dismay) and doing a lot of shopping (again, much to my dismay).  He says he is very happy to be home, and like the banner in the background says, it was the "happiest homecoming on earth."

Almost home...

Ji has left Iraq and is just biding his time in Kuwait.  He'll leave Friday morning and will arrive in LA that night.  bu-tter-flies...

One last picture from the "other desert"
